OBJECTIVE OF THE SINGLE LAYER


1. Using the same raw materials of the first layer of the traditional "terrazzo" tile, that is cement, marble powder, marble granulates, without any need of chemical additives;

2. Reducing to a minimum the thickness of the tile, by eliminating the 2nd layer, whose only use was the absorb the water from the wet 1st layer;

3. Developping a system that, in addition to simplicity of operation, could guarantee a very good industrial production, both in quantity and in quality;

4. Producing a thin, single-layer cement - agglomerated tile, very compact and without porosity with mechanical characteristics superior to the thicker double-layer "terrazzo" tile and comparable with other leading paving products.


These were the 4 requirements at the basis of the research for the MS single-layer tile.
Tests carried out in different laboratories in several countries on samples produced by local manufacturers, have consistently shown values of transverse strenght in the range of 11 to 12 N/mm2, that is much better than a traditional double-layer "terrazzo" tile and comparable to typical values of natural stones. Resintence to abrasion, to impact an water absorption have also yielded better values.Reduced thickness and consequent lightness of the MS single layer tile not only save transport costs, but also offer a visual appeal useful for a competitive presentation on the market.
The MS single layer tile is as easily laid as ceramic or marble and, being a full mass homogeneous product, can be repolished on the spot for many times, always recovering the original brilliance. Aesthetic characteristics are however supported by signifcant mechanical performances, particularly high transverse strenght and absence of inner porosity: all this, is worth stressing again, without any need of chemical additives of any kind.Thanks to its characteristics the MS single layer tile can be used in a number of application previously denied to the double layer "terrazzo" tile, like ventilated walls cladding, floating floors, steps for stairs.
Customers that have already got into production generally agree that the MS single layer tile: "is the product of the future, has made production easier, has reduced the maintenance of the machines, has improved the added value of the product, has created new sales openings".
